Ill Manors: DVD extras

Plan B's intentions ?

In the DVD extras we can see Plan B's intentions for making the film Ill Manors. From the interview in the DVD extras Plan B's say's he wanted to offer an explanation. This could be because not many people know about this different way of life that people live and and explanation into why and how this way of life is allowed to continue right under their noses. The film was also made so that Plan B could show the mis-representations of London's youth and it was not just based on the entertainment of the audience but to convey a deep message to the audience so that they could see that the representations and stereotypes of the youths are given to them by the audience as they show no love or interest in their environment.

Production process?

As Ill Manors is somewhat of an Art House production we could assume that it is quite a low budget film, it cost approximately £80,000 to produce. The finance was provided by Microwave film London; an institute that invests in British, low budget films. To keep it even more low budget, it was almost all shot on location and nothing was set up in a studio and filmed there so they may have also had trouble on some location shoots as the areas they were filming in wasn't always very pleasant. In my opinion i think that a lower budget was more beneficial for the film as with a lower one they weren't able to try and film in better sports or re-create anything and they were able to represent the parts of London for what they truly were and that helped give the audience more of an accurate representation of what forest green and others parts of the London suburb was really like.

Possible target audience?

The possible target audience for Ill Manors the film and the DVD extras may be slightly different as the audience for the film may be primarily teenagers or young adults who fit into the psychographic group of strugglers but the DVD extra section is quite significant as you may not see the younger people want to watch how the film was made so you could assume the minority audience such as middle class white people may be more interested in the DVD extra part as they may be uneducated about this film and may want to find out more,

Does the film do what Ben drew set out to achieve?

On a low budget, i do think this film does exactly what is set out to do, it represented the harsh reality of London life when everyone has let you down. In the interview Plan B even says they were approached by real life gangs and were told to move on whilst filming which just goes to show how resilient the team were to get this film and almost expose how bad London life has got for the misguided youth.
